Feature Interview Excerpt

I can't stress how important it is to read, because that's how you become a writer. You don't have any other training. You can go to university but the training is to read, and figure out what other writers are doing.

Editorial Comment Highlights

From time to time the editors are invited to visit schools and talk about writing, editing and publishing.

It can be a scary experience to face the blank page. It is daunting, as anyone who has tried knows only too well. An even bigger obstacle, however, is having the nerve to send one's work to a magazine. What might editors think? Will they laugh? Sneer? Use my work as a coaster?

While more than one literary effort has borne the brunt of posing as a coaster, every submission received by editors of literary magazines is considered reverently.

The assumption is that the work received is not a slap-dash first draft hung with stamps.

Virtually all of the work that makes its way to print is the result of twenty, thirty, fifty, sometimes hundreds of drafts. This is not uncommon. It is routine.
