Hundreds of young adult writers have made their way into the pages of The Claremont Review and each and every one of them we consider successful.

Many who first published in our magazine have gone on to publish in adult literary magazines and many have pursued Creative Writing at the university level. The following include some of the exceptional highlights.

  • Peggy Hogan and Kevin Woodland placed first and second respectively in the Petra Kenney International Poetry Contest in 2006.

Here's what literary circles have to say about the Review

The Poetry Society of New Hampshire, in The Poet’s Touchstone, refers to The Claremont Review as

“. . . the crème de la crème of all journals I’ve seen. It is beautifully laid out and edited. The writing and the artwork are phenomenal.”

Comments from independent judges of our Annual Poetry Contest

“We awarded first prize to “painter” because it has that extra quality of vision which has always belonged to the finest poets such as William Blake and P.K. Page.”

Linda Rogers:“Usually, it is easy to spot the moments of genius, but so many of these poems evidence a mature understating of form and content, it was nearly impossible to make a distinction between them. In the end, we kept coming back to the poems that would not let us ignore them.” Sara Cassidy: “I sat straight-backed at my desk and read every page, disarmed by wit, brave images and surprising self-awareness.”
